Michael Schaufler, Owner & CEO

Michael Schaufler is the husband to Lori Schaufler and father of three, residing in Walnut Creek California. Michael has been in the financial markets business since graduating from the University of Hartford with a degree in Economics.

He began his career in New York City working for large financial institutions and moved to Charlotte NC in 2004 looking for a wholesome environment for he and his wife Lori, to raise their family.

His career in finance moved him to Walnut Creek California in the summer of 2010. Michael left the banking business as a global team-lead and Managing Director of a large US money center bank. He has held pivotal roles on management teams, best practices committees and mentoring programs.

After leaving the successes of the financial industry Michael now has decided to dedicate his experiences, skillsets and passion to caring for the elderly in his community. Michael and Lori are devoting their final careers to providing elders with dignity, love, and compassionate care.

Lori Schaufler, Owner & COO

Lori Schaufler is a mother of three residing with her husband Michael in Walnut Creek. Lori also graduated with Michael from the University of Hartford with a degree in Communications and Business. Lori began her career with Garan Inc. in New York City. Following her professional career path she landed at Time Warner in NYC. Lori also held the title of Event Coordinator at VIP Sports Group.

As well as being the most amazing home chef, Lori has dedicated her life to her family, being actively involved in volunteering at every stage of her children’s lives. Lori has co-headed the Northgate Highschool’s annual Octoberfest as well as co-heading the food and beverage area for the Woodland’s Swim Team just to name a few. Lori’s passion for hard work, honesty, integrity, credibility and her most loving heart encompasses the hallmarks of Golden Heart Walnut Creek.

Melissa Assael, Vice President of Marketing

Originally from New York, Melissa moved with her family to Boca Raton, Florida where she graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Education. While teaching in Florida, she met her husband Brian and together they moved to Walnut Creek, CA.

She has raised two beautiful girls. One of whom was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2. She has become well versed on Diabetes care – managing blood sugars, diet, insulin and pump care. Melissa has been an active volunteer at the girls’ schools as well as with their extracurricular activities.

Melissa has volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Meals on Wheels, White Pony Express and the Monument Crisis Center. Melissa has always lived an active lifestyle and is keenly aware of good health and nutrition. Being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2007, initiated her to gain further knowledge of health and wellness. She continued her education and is now a Certified Health Coach with a focus on nutrition.

Melissa became passionate about in-home care, after she and her family struggled to find trustworthy, compassionate quality care for her terminally ill in-laws and mother. Golden Heart is thrilled that Melissa has joined the Golden Heart Team. She is dedicated and committed to making life better for you and your loved ones.

Angela Soto-Cardoza, Care Manager

Angela was Born and raised in the East Bay. She continues to live in the East Bay with her husband and two children. Angela began her career as a caregiver after she started to care for her grandmother at the age of 18. After being a caregiver for six years, Angela decided to further her career and became a CNA and worked in a variety of elderly care facilities. Angela worked as a CNA for four years. At this point, she decided to continue her education and become a Medical Assistant. Angela took some time off to raise her two children.

Angela returned to the caregiving field with Golden Heart Walnut Creek in 2019 and has since been promoted to lead our caregiving team.
